Santa Lucia Highlands - Pey-Lucia Vineyards
This very small appellation sits along the chilly central coast and is fast becoming rock star territory for superlative West Coast Pinot Noir. Approved in 1991 as an AVA, vineyards are planted on the southeast facing terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range.
These elevated locations take advantage of the morning sunshine before the afternoon maritime breezes cool the vineyards. This climatic combination results in a very long growing season which allows Pinot Noir to fully develop and attain maximum varietal potential. Ancient, glacial alluvial soils pair with ocean fog and breezes to create a true "Region I" climate in which Pinot Noir flourishes.
Our Pey-Lucia "Frisquet" Pinot Noir is sustainably-farmed in an old, wind swept hillside block. Honestly, it is not always a pleasant place to be, as it gets very cold and windy. "Frisquet", a French term meaning "chilly", is a perfect descriptor for this unique home to our second Pinot Noir.
Pey-Lucia Pinot Noir displays the much-celebrated depth of flavor found in the best Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noirs. Its name may mean "chilly", but it is certain to warm your heart.
